Trapped behind bars of silent lies,
Incarcerated by others’ fears
Of misunderstanding and judgment,
By guilt of difference, by uniqueness uncelebrated.
Circles barring entry
Instead of creating belonging…
Never good enough, smart enough,
Pretty enough, right enough, perfect enough.
Lips quiver with lessons
Harshly delivered and not understood.
Oh, that the skies would bless this child!
That the winds would free this child!
That the tides would move this child!
That the mountains would supply this child!
May this child dance to a circle of merry life music makers
With fire in her soul,
With love in her eyes,
With strength in her heart,
With mercy in her hands!
