Strong Enough?

Alone in her isolation,
She sets her face to the wind.
Relationships dance around her,
But the absence of connection shouts a silent whisper.
Everything is ventured
With no gain to show for effort.
Every fistful of dirt she grabs
Slides her further into an endless chasm.
They see but don’t acknowledge.
They hear but don’t answer.
The invisible souls slip and slide slowly out of sight.
A brief blip of light brings visibility,
But the deafening roar of cogs in a machine
Wipes away all trace of self.
Serving the sameness idol
Sang a siren song
She sullenly refused to sense.
Where do all the ragged individuals go?
For she seeks the places individuals know.
She refuses to snuff out her spark.
